On 8 October 2013 a lot of new data was loaded on the international OBIS portal; the total number of records stands now at just over 37 million, from 1,374 individual data sets.

The statistics page has been updated to reflect these new numbers. See also this page for details of the new and updated data sets, and a link to a map of each data set.

OBIS is a project of:
IOC-UNESCO
IODE Sponsored by:
Martin International and Les Grands Explorateurs
With in-kind support from:
Marine Geospatial Ecology Lab, Duke University
Universidad Simón Bolívar Flanders Marine Institute

OBIS strives to document the ocean's diversity, distribution and abundance of life. Created by the Census of Marine Life, OBIS is now part of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, under its International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) programme.
