On 27 July 2012, new data was loaded on the international OBIS portal; the total number of records stands now at 33.6 million, from 1,125 individual data sets. Over thirty new data sets from the Baleares were made available through EurOBIS. A large data set from ICES, the Database of Trawl Surveys (DATRAS) is now available as a series of separate data sets; this allows us to better acknowledge the original data providers in the metadata. OBIS Canada provided four new data sets. The South Western Pacific OBIS Node has become active again, and supplied two data sets.

The statistics page has been updated to reflect the new numbers. See also this page for details on the new and updated data sets, and a link to a map of each of these data sets.

OBIS is a project of:

OBIS strives to document the ocean's diversity, distribution and abundance of life. Created by the Census of Marine Life, OBIS is now part of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, under its International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) programme.
